Circular 33/2003: Motor Mileage Allowances

1. I am directed by the Minister for Finance to say that he has accepted an agreed recommendation of the General Council under the scheme of Conciliation and Arbitration for the Civil Service in regard to a general review of motor mileage rates for civil servants. General Council report 1434 refers. The new rates (details of which are shown overleaf) will apply with effect from 1 January 2003. Reduced mileage rates which apply to travel in certain special circumstances, as outlined in previous Circulars, are also shown overleaf.
2. Payment of the rates authorised in this Circular will be subject to the regulations issued with Circular 11/82 and any other instructions in force from time to time.
3. Heads of Departments should continue to ensure that only essential travel is undertaken and that the number of officers on any official journey is kept to the absolute minimum.
4. Any telephone enquiries about this circular from Departments should be made to 604 5426 or 604 5448. Personal enquiries from individual officers should be addressed to the Personnel Unit of the employing Department/Office.
