Public Service Pensions
The Department of Public Expenditure and Reform is responsible for Government public service pensions policy. Pension schemes and pension terms for public servants generally require the consent of the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, once approved by the relevant line Minister. The Department also provides actuarial support services in relation to public service pension issues.
Information on public service pensions, including relevant legislation, circulars and documents is available here.
Civil Service Pensions
The Department is responsible for the policy, administration and payment of civil service pensions and it manages the Superannuation Vote from which all such payments are made.
Information on civil service pension schemes and terms is available at www.cspensions.gov.ie.
National Pensions Policy
National pensions policy is a major priority given the ageing of the population, other expected demographic changes and the need to ensure budget sustainability. The Department of Social Protection is responsible for national pensions policy but the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform contributes to it, for example in relation to The National Pensions Framework.
